$1.1 Billion Lottery In Spain

$1.1 Billion Lottery Spain

January 6th or Three Kings Day is a religious holiday for a lot of people, but in Spain, it’s also the day when they hand out $1.1 Billion Dollars in lottery winnings.

The lottery is called El Nino (I don’t know how to put that little squiggly line over the letter “o” with my keyboard) in honor of the Baby Jesus. Unlike here in the U.S. where one winner can take home the whole pot, the most you can win in the Spanish El Nino lottery is about $260,000 and new Spanish austerity laws require winners to pay a 20% tax.

A ticket for the $1.1 billion dollar lottery costs roughly $26 per ticket.
